Beware: CSPD Sound Alarm on Increasing Scam Activities
Colorado Springs Police Warn of Scams: Stay Vigilant to Protect Against Fraud
CSPD is warning the community about various scams targeting individuals through phone calls and text messages. Scammers often request payment in the form of gift cards or cryptocurrency. Here are some examples to watch out for:
One scam involves impersonating law enforcement and claiming the victim has a warrant for their arrest, demanding payment to remove it.
Another scam targets employees, pretending to be from their company and requesting money for supposed compliance issues.
Scammers also use text messages or emails posing as legitimate businesses to deceive victims into making payments. They employ tactics to keep victims on the phone during transactions and may instruct them to visit multiple bank branches to avoid suspicion. (It is important to note that law enforcement will never solicit payment over the phone, especially via gift cards or cryptocurrency.)
Community members can protect themselves by being cautious with personal information on social media, verifying calls from law enforcement or company representatives independently, and avoiding clicking on suspicious links.
To report a scam, contact the Colorado Springs Police Department at 719-444-7000 or the Internet Crime Complaint Center. It is also encouraged to make a report to the Internet Crime Complaint Center at www.ic3.gov
Taking these steps can help prevent falling victim to financial crimes for yourself or the ones you love.
Gas Prices Dip in Colorado Springs: Relief at the Pump
Great news, gas prices in Colorado Springs have dropped by 9.1 cents per gallon last week, according to a recent survey by GasBuddy. That means you'll be saving a little more at the pump!
As of Monday, October 8, the average gas price in Colorado Springs stands at $3.68 per gallon. That's 14 cents lower than it was a month ago, although it's still 3.8 cents higher compared to this time last year.
GasBuddy also shared some interesting insights about the price differences in Colorado Springs. On Sunday, October 7, the cheapest gas station was selling gas for $3.28 per gallon, while the most expensive one charged $4.15 per gallon. That's quite a difference of 87 cents per gallon, so it's definitely worth shopping around for the best prices! (There are apps that can help compare before you start driving around, using more gas.)
Now, let's talk diesel. The national average price for diesel fuel currently sits at $4.48 per gallon, which actually dropped by four cents from last week.
It's important to keep in mind that these are just average prices, and they can vary from one location to another. But overall, it's great to see a downward trend in gas prices, providing some relief for drivers in Colorado Springs and across the nation.
Remember, if you're planning a road trip or just need to fill up your tank, it's always a good idea to keep an eye on the local prices and find the best deals in your area. Happy driving and enjoy those savings at the pump!
