π Debate Over Land Use Appeals: Colorado House Makes Move
The Colorado House passes a bill, HB24-1107, aiming to deter neighborhood groups from appealing approved land use decisions by requiring them to cover the city's attorney fees if they lose. Proponents argue it curtails frivolous lawsuits, while opponents claim it infringes on constitutional rights. Multiple neighborhood groups in Colorado Springs have filed 106 Appeals to stop approved projects.
π Safety First: TODAY CSPD Upgrades Systems, Urges 911 for Emergencies
Colorado Springs Police Department activated Priority Dispatch and Accident Alert status today at 2 AM until 10 AM, for an internal communications systems upgrade. Life-threatening emergencies will still receive response; 911 remains active. Non-emergencies should be reported online or after 10 AM.

Evans Army Community Hospital (EACH) broke ground for a new helicopter landing pad adjacent to its emergency room entrance, in collaboration with the 4th Engineer Battalion from Fort Carson. This joint construction initiative, also involving the Fort Carson Department of Public Works, aims to facilitate seamless access to and from Medical Evacuation (MEDEVAC) helicopters for swift patient transport. The project is estimated to be completed sometime in April.

πΆ Trivia: Fannie Mae Duncan's Legacy in Colorado Springs
Still honoring Women's History Month⦠let's talk about Fannie Mae Duncan. She was a visionary entrepreneur and philanthropist who made a significant impact on the Colorado Springs community in the mid-20th century.
As the owner of the Cotton Club, (next door to where the Pikes Peak Center stands today) Duncan created an inclusive space that welcomed everyone, regardless of race, during a time when segregation was prevalent across the United States. Her mantra, "Everybody Welcome," was not just a policy but a bold statement of unity and acceptance. Her club became a cultural hub, attracting top jazz musicians and a diverse clientele, fostering an atmosphere of racial harmony and cultural exchange that resonated throughout the city.
