๐ญ Webb Telescope Lands in Springs
The Space Foundation, known for its contributions to global space education and innovation, has been gifted a full-scale model of the James Webb Space Telescope (Webb) by Northrop Grumman. Valued at $1 million, the model, which traveled internationally for over a decade, will now permanently reside at the Space Foundation Discovery Center in Colorado Springs. This announcement was made during the opening ceremony of the 39th annual Space Symposium at The Broadmoor. The Discovery Center, known for its interactive space and science exhibits, aims to inspire and educate the next generation of space enthusiasts.
โฝ Gas Prices Dip Locally
In Colorado Springs, April 8, 2024 data from GasBuddy shows a slight decline in gasoline prices, with the average price per gallon decreasing by 2.8 cents to reach $3.00 (as of Apr 9 some stations are now under $3). This comes as welcome news for local motorists, although prices remain slightly higher compared to a month ago. Variations in prices across different stations in the city are evident, highlighting the importance of comparing options for the best deal.
๐ง Bipartisan Push: Graywater Bill Gains Ground
In a unified effort to combat water scarcity, the Colorado House has backed HB 1362, a bill seeking to extend the use of graywater systems in new residential constructions across the state. Sponsored by bipartisan legislators, the bill awaits approval from the Senate and the governor. Its passage would mark a significant stride in promoting water conservation efforts amidst deepening drought conditions in the region.
Despite the potential benefits outlined in the Colorado Water Plan, including mitigating future water demands, the adoption of graywater systems has been limited, with only a handful of jurisdictions opting in since 2013. The bill's proponents underscore the urgency of implementing advanced water conservation measures, aligning with Colorado's commitment to addressing climate change impacts. However, the proposed legislation initially included a tax credit provision, which was subsequently removed during committee hearings. Nonetheless, advocates remain hopeful that the bill, if enacted, will strengthen the state's resolve in managing water resources sustainably.

๐ท Colorado Springs' Photography Pioneer
Byron H. Gurnsey was Colorado Springs' first photographer, producing hundreds of stereoviews of Colorado during the 1870s. His series, "Gurnsey's Rocky Mountain Views and Scenes on the Line of the Denver & Rio Grande Railway," included images of Colorado Springs, Pikes Peak, and other iconic locations. His work is preserved by major institutions, capturing the early days of Colorado Springs and the surrounding region through his pioneering photography.
๐ผ Stereoviews were a popular form of photography in the late 19th century that created a 3D effect when viewed through a special device. What was this viewing device called? |
