โ™ฟ Trail Accessibility Expansion

Colorado Springs-area trails are becoming more accessible with the introduction of Terrain Hoppers, electric vehicles designed to assist individuals with mobility challenges. Cheyenne Mountain State Park is acquiring two of these vehicles, offering online reservations for Memorial Day weekend. This initiative mirrors El Paso County's Trailability Program, which recently opened reservations for summer and early fall tours. The city parks department is launching a Trackchair program, with plans to upgrade trails to accommodate these vehicles. Efforts are already underway in Bear Creek Canyon Park, with discussions ongoing for Red Rock Canyon Open Space.

๐Ÿ—๏ธ Closure and Cleanup: Return To Nature Demolition

Return To Nature Demolition

Demolition of the Return to Nature Funeral Home started this past Tuesday, marking the end of a troubling chapter. The coroner reported that 17 out of 191 bodies discovered at the site are still unidentified. DNA testing is underway for 12 bodies, with identification efforts expected to span 6 months.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) assisted in the demolition process, addressing biohazard concerns and testing the soil post-demolition. Ownership of the property remains with the original owner, with demolished materials destined for a nearby landfill.

๐ŸŽ“ UCCS Tuition Up: Budget Woes Persist

Facing a $4 million budget deficit, University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) intends to raise tuition by 3% for in-state and 4% for out-of-state students in the fall. This decision aligns with efforts to manage rising operational expenses while maintaining educational standards.

Additionally, the university seeks funding support from the Colorado legislature, particularly for cybersecurity education expansion. Plans include offering early retirement to faculty and implementing budget cuts in various departments. The tuition hike reflects a broader trend of increasing costs in higher education, prompting students to reassess financial strategies and consider additional sources of income.
