πŸ™οΈ Mayor Yemi Marks First Year Milestone

Yemi Mobolade marks his first year as Mayor of Colorado Springs with significant achievements across public safety, infrastructure, housing, and economic development. Key initiatives include nearly reaching full staffing for the police, extensive road and sidewalk repairs, constructing affordable housing units, and attracting new jobs and investments. His focus on community engagement and proactive governance has set the stage for continued progress. Full Story

πŸ“‹ Residents’ Input Needed on City’s Future

Colorado Springs is seeking resident feedback on its 2024-2028 Strategic Plan, which details long-term goals in public safety, economic vitality, infrastructure, housing, and community engagement.

Residents can provide input via an online survey and at public meetings on June 11, either in person or virtually. The plan, informed by past community input, aims to reflect the collective vision of the city’s future and will guide the city’s annual strategic actions.

πŸŒ„ Intern Program Boosts Local Talent Retention

Economists in Colorado Springs are concerned about the city's young professionals leaving for opportunities elsewhere. To counter this, the "Hello Colorado Springs" program seeks to attract and retain talent by offering a comprehensive internship experience to individuals aged 18 to 34. The program, now in its second year, has welcomed 40 interns from across the globe. Organizers are optimistic, given that all participants from the first year expressed interest in continuing their careers in the city. The program runs until August 23.

🚨 Funeral Home Scandal: Separate Trials Ordered

The owners of Return to Nature funeral home, Jon and Carie Hallford, are set to face separate trials for their involvement in improperly storing nearly 200 bodies, a case that has attracted widespread attention since it began in late 2023. The Hallfords face numerous charges at the state and federal levels, including abuse of a corpse and financial crimes.

Separate trials were ordered due to potential conflicts between their defense teams. Carie Hallford, under house arrest, will be arraigned on July 11, while Jon remains in custody awaiting an October federal trial. The public can contact authorities for further information via [email protected].

πŸ‹ No Bake Lemon Lavender Cheesecake

This no bake cheesecake, by local COS chef Christine Miller, has a light and creamy consistency with just hints of lavender and fresh lemon! It's the easiest cheesecake you will ever make, and tastes just as delicious as a more traditional cheesecake without heating up the kitchen.
