🧨 Important Firework Guidelines for El Paso’s 4th
El Paso County will allow specific types of fireworks this Independence Day, such as sparklers and fountains (Click for details and regulations), thanks to recent rainfall mitigating fire risks. However, fireworks that explode or leave the ground remain illegal throughout Colorado. Residents in various municipalities, including Colorado Springs, must adhere to stricter local bans, with all fireworks prohibited within the city. Sheriff Joseph Roybal urged the public to celebrate responsibly, with law enforcement prepared to address any violations, including impaired driving and unsafe firework use. As festivities commence, it's essential for everyone to prioritize safety and respect community regulations.
🏙️ Local Groups Sue Over Development Law
Courtesy of Christian Murdock, The Gazette file
Two Colorado Springs organizations, part of a wider coalition, have filed a federal lawsuit against the city and the Colorado Attorney General, challenging a new state law that they argue unfairly benefits developers. House Bill 24-1107, enacted in May, requires residents to pay local governments' legal fees if they lose court cases over local land-use decisions for residential projects exceeding five units per acre.
This law, which does not impose similar costs on developers in comparable situations, is seen by the plaintiffs as a deterrent to community advocacy and a violation of constitutional rights. The plaintiffs include Integrity Matters and Westside Watch, who have a history of opposing local development projects in Colorado Springs. The city and state have yet to comment on the lawsuit. *Source
💈 Veterans Get Free Haircuts Today, July 4th
To celebrate and honor veterans and military personnel, Neons Salon and Barbershop (6130 Barnes Rd), alongside EXP Military Network, will host the “Haircuts for Heroes” event today, July 4th. Free haircuts will be available from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. for veterans, military members, and their spouses at the salon’s location on Barnes Road. The event, open to the public, includes live music from local bands, food, and various activities. Positioned across from the Rocky Mountain Vibes stadium, attendees will also have a prime view of the fireworks. A special ceremony will recognize service members, and proceeds from the event will benefit Honor Flight of Southern Colorado.
🥔 Best Classic Potato Salad
