๐ No Senior Left Hungry: Silver Key's Ongoing Food Drive Initiative
Silver Key Senior Services expands its initiative, "Bountiful Pantry: Nourishing Seniors Throughout the Year," to combat year-round food insecurity among seniors. The move responds to the persistent hunger issues faced by seniors, affecting nearly 1 in 10 elderly individuals in Colorado. The organization aims to diversify food options, accommodating cultural preferences and dietary needs beyond traditional holiday meals.
Donations can be made for those willing to contribute, designated spots for food donations have been established. These include:
Safeway on Murray and Fountain Blvd (open from now until December 29th)
King Soopers on Centennial and Fillmore, as well as Stetson Hills and Powers, both open for donations on Friday, Nov. 10, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Additionally, donations are welcome at the Silver Key Food Pantry, located at 1605 S. Murray, accessible Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
๐ Colorado Springs Cracks Down: Dangerous Drivers Beware
Colorado Springs Police, in collaboration with the city, are targeting dangerous drivers through the "Vehicle Public Nuisance Ordinance" (VPNO). This ordinance permits police to seize vehicles engaged in reckless behavior, including street racing and speeding. Once a vehicle is declared a nuisance, owners face significant fees and potential loss of the vehicle. The initiative aims to curb reckless driving practices.
๐ Crime Spree in Colorado Springs: Suspects Tied to Multiple Robberies
A tense standoff unfolded at a Colorado Springs motel on N Nevada Ave, concluding with eight individuals in custody. Among them, one person is under scrutiny for potential involvement in a series of armed robberies that transpired overnight. The robberies occurred at various locations:
at 7:48 p.m., an armed suspect targeted a business on Aeroplaza Dr., fleeing with cash
at 9:40 p.m., two individuals brandishing handguns entered a business on N Academy Blvd., robbing it before escaping with money
at 9:55 p.m., a business on Corporate Dr. fell victim to an armed assailant who fled with cash.
Additionally, a separate incident was reported at the same address as the motel on N Nevada Ave just after midnight, where two masked men with handguns demanded and escaped with money. The suspects in this case wore full-faced masks, with one being described as 6' tall and the other as 6'5" tall. Investigations into these incidents are ongoing.
