💬 Speak Up! Colorado Springs Housing Plans

The City of Colorado Springs Housing and Community Vitality Department is extending an invitation to the public for participation in the discussion of the 2024 Annual Action Plan on January 3, 6-7 p.m., at the City Administration Building for the 2024 Annual Action Plan.

The plan outlines strategies and projects using federal grants, and residents can attend in person or virtually to provide feedback.

Language interpreters are available upon request, and detailed information, including virtual meeting access. Click for full details.

🌉 Capital Gains: Colorado Springs' Growth Momentum

Colorado Springs ends 2023 on a high note with notable infrastructure achievements. The 2C paving program excelled, rejuvenating over 177 lane miles and enhancing key roads. Major capital projects, like the 30th Street Project and Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority initiatives, boosted regional growth.

Voters extended the TOPS tax for 20 years, supporting citywide projects, and resilient storm water infrastructure, backed by a $50 million investment, effectively withstood record rainfall. Mountain Metro Transit marked successes with a new facility and plans for six hybrid electric buses by late 2024.

🌿 Trails and Teens: GOCO Grant Powers Conservation

Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services secure a $92,400 grant from Colorado Youth Corps Association (CYCA) and Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO), offering nine weeks of work from Mile High Youth Corps. The project focuses on trail enhancements in Austin Bluffs Open Space and noxious weed management in Smith Creek and Fishers Canyon Open Spaces. The collaboration aims to provide meaningful employment for youth while advancing conservation and recreation efforts.

🚨 Shoplifting Chaos: Mace and Getaway

In the 1500 block of Space Center Dr, officers from the Stetson Hills Division responded to a reported robbery around 5:00 pm on 12/18/2023. This incident involved a female shoplifter who deployed mace when confronted by loss prevention personnel. 🕯️ Soothing the Silent Night

With less than a week until Christmas, it's not uncommon for those struggling with holiday depression to retreat into solitude, which might seem like a refuge but can exacerbate feelings of loneliness. If you notice someone withdrawing, gently reach out. A simple invitation for coffee or a walk can convey care without pressure. It’s important to listen and validate their feelings, offering support without insisting on solutions.

Be attentive to their comfort levels and respect if someone prefers solitude for rejuvenation. It's vital to distinguish between beneficial alone time and harmful isolation. Ask open-ended questions to understand their preferences, and let them guide the interaction. Sometimes, just knowing someone is available and willing to listen can be incredibly comforting.
