🚒 CSFD Unveils Downtown Blaze Origins

In an update to our Dec. 5 issue #055, the Colorado Springs Fire Department identifies the cause of the downtown fire at 15 E Bijou—a kitchen refrigerator's electrical malfunction. Businesses, previously featured in the article "Losses Amid Ashes: Downtown Fire Hits Businesses Hard," continue to face closures due to lingering smoke damage.

🎼 Sounds of Strength: Teens Create Healing Melodies

Teens in the Kids Crossing Groundbreakers Program are immersing themselves in the world of music through the Music House Winter Camp. Divided into production and writing groups, these 14 to 17-year-olds, often facing various challenges, are creating their original songs.

Anthem Music Enterprises collaborates with the program, providing professional expertise to help participants transform their thoughts into tunes. The camp, running from Dec. 27 to Dec. 29, aims to produce three beats while teaching valuable skills like music promotion and social media use. The initiative not only nurtures artistic talents but also serves as a therapeutic outlet, aiding teens in expressing their struggles and finding healing through music.

🤲 Volunteer for Health: CSHF Board Position Open

The Colorado Springs Health Foundation is inviting applications for a Board of Trustees position starting Jan. 1, 2024. The foundation focuses on health-related grants in the Pikes Peak region, seeking candidates with expertise in public health, social determinants, education, housing, and community diversity. The volunteer role requires an eight-hour monthly commitment, and applications are due by Jan. 12, 2024, accessible online at ColoradoSprings.gov/boards.

🚔 Road Rage Escalation: Stabbing Incident Unfolds

On Wed Dec 27th, approximately 4:40 PM, officers from the Sand Creek Division were dispatched to a road rage incident near N Circle Drive and E St Vrain Street. The person who called the police claimed the driver that stabbed the other driver involved, had left the scene in their vehicle. The injured driver was taken to the local hospital, where officers later conducted an interview. The Assault unit of the Colorado Springs Police Department's detectives is overseeing the investigation. As of the time of reporting, all parties have been identified, and there are no current arrests.

👮‍♂️ El Paso County Jail: Inmate Death Prompts Probe

A 44-year-old male inmate was found unresponsive in his cell at the El Paso County Jail on Dec. 26th, and despite lifesaving efforts, he passed away. The Sheriff's Office is conducting an investigation even though no foul play is suspected.

💪 Embrace Discomfort, Find Strength

In the pursuit of emotional liberation, today’s tip urges you to confront discomfort with courage. Rather than avoiding or suppressing difficult emotions, we explore why sitting with them is a powerful act of self-compassion and a vital step toward lasting emotional well-being.

Why Confront Discomfort?

Avoiding or suppressing uncomfortable emotions only prolongs the impact of emotional baggage. Uncomfortable emotions, when ignored, tend to resurface and manifest in various aspects of our lives. You can build resilience by acknowledging and sitting with these emotions. By facing them, you reclaim control and prevent them from dictating your reactions. It's a courageous step towards genuine emotional liberation—acknowledging that discomfort is a part of the human experience and can be transformative when faced with courage.
