β οΈPlan Ahead: Traffic Impact Expected during Firefighter's Funeral Procession.
Residents and commuters are advised to prepare for traffic impacts this morning (Thursday) as a funeral procession for the late Colorado Springs firefighter, Bobby Keese, makes its way through the city. The funeral service will be held at New Life Church on Thursday morning at 11 a.m.
Prior to the service, at 9:30 a.m., a procession will escort Keese from the funeral home. The route will begin in the downtown area and proceed north on I-25 from Bijou St. The procession will take the North Gate Blvd exit and travel south on Voyager Pkwy, passing CSFD Station 22, which was Keese's firehouse, before concluding at New Life Church. Commencing around 9:50 a.m., the procession will affect traffic on I-25 northbound from Bijou to Northgate for an extended period.
The funeral service is open to the public, and doors will open half an hour before the scheduled start time.
π§Tackling PFAS: Collaborative Effort Targets Contamination at Schriever Space Force Base!
Scientists from Colorado School of Mines, in collaboration with international partners, are spearheading an effort to combat PFAS, or "Forever Chemicals," found in substances like firefighting foams and Teflon pans. The team, backed by the Department of Defense, will experiment with various soil purification technologies provided by companies such as Savron Solutions and TerraTherm at Schriever Space Force Base. These methods, ranging from extreme heat treatments to water-based solutions, aim to eliminate PFAS from contaminated soil, addressing health risks associated with these chemicals.
π«Polis Reveals Ambitious $45.8B Budget
Governor Jared Polis has unveiled a tight budget proposal totaling $45.8 billion for 2024-25, with a focus on education, public safety, and housing in Colorado. The plan aims to fully fund public schools, investing in reducing class sizes and teacher salaries. Additionally, initiatives include allocating funds for summer meals programs, affordable housing projects, and creating units near transit stations. Polis emphasizes the importance of affordable living and aims to address rising housing costs while enhancing public safety strategies. The proposal now moves to the General Assembly for consideration.
