🍞 Chill-Defying Pantry: Solid Rock's Cold Snap Aid Continues

Solid Rock Community Food Bank in Colorado Springs organized an exclusive food distribution for seniors amidst the cold weather yesterday, ensuring their needs were met without enduring long lines. Despite sub-zero temperatures, 65 seniors and their families were served. The community-driven initiative underscores the vital role the pantry plays in addressing local needs.

A follow-up food distribution for the general public is scheduled for today from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the pantry on 3219 S. Academy Blvd. and Hancock Expy.

🚧 Chelton Road's Icy Twist: Water Main Break Near Citadel

A water main break near Citadel Mall turned part of Chelton Road into an impromptu ice rink amid sub-zero temperatures yesterday morning. Springs Utilities is actively addressing the issue. As crews work to mend the water main, the northbound lane on Chelton Road, spanning from Galley Road to Santa Rosa Street, has been reopened for traffic. However, the southbound lane remains closed, emphasizing the need for cautious driving in construction zones.

🌞 Colorado's Sunshine Myth

Did you know that the claim of Colorado Springs having 300 days of sunshine a year is actually a myth? This sunny tale dates back to the 1870s and was spun by a publicist for a now-defunct railroad company, aiming to lure people to the area with the promise of a delightful climate

The truth is, there's no official definition for 'days of sunshine,' making such claims hard to verify. In reality, Colorado Springs enjoys an average of 243 sunny days per year.

So, while the 300 days of sunshine claim might be an exaggeration, it's undeniable that Colorado Springs is blessed with a significant amount of sunshine, adding to its charm and appeal as a place to live and visit.

🍏 Respond to Hunger - Nourish Your Body Promptly πŸ•°οΈ

Welcome to Day 2 of our Emotional Eating Challenge! Today's focus on responding to hunger has a direct impact on addressing the connection between our feelings and food.

Breaking the Cycle:

When we respond promptly to hunger cues, we tackle a fundamental aspect of connecting feelings with food. Hunger often disguises itself, leading us to make impulsive and less mindful food choices based on our emotional state. By nourishing your body when hunger arises, you're less likely to turn to food as a quick fix for feelings.

Benefits for Well-being:

  • Reduced likelihood of using food as a response to feelings.

  • Increased awareness of genuine hunger versus cravings tied to emotions.

  • Improved overall well-being through mindful and intentional nourishment. 🌿

Practical Tip:

Keep healthy snacks like fruits or nuts nearby to respond promptly to hunger cues. This small but powerful step not only supports physical well-being but also contributes to breaking the cycle of connecting emotions with food.

Stay tuned for tomorrow's insight as we continue this journey toward a more balanced and mindful relationship with nourishment! 🌟🍽️
