ποΈ Reimagining Pikes Peak Recreation
Pikes Peak, facing an influx of 24 million annual visitors, prompts the Pikes Peak Outdoor Initiative to explore solutions for overwhelmed communities and land managers. After a three-year study, the proposal suggests Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) assume a role similar to the Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area, focusing on effective recreation management. The term "state park" remains tentative due to associated sensitivities. Pikes Peak's popularity mirrors Colorado's broader growth challenges, with the initiative serving as a potential model for conservation amidst rising recreational demands.
π¬ CSPD's Winning Play for Unity
The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) created "PLAY COS," a program fostering positive interactions between officers and the community through sports. Aimed at improving police-community relations, the initiative supplies CSPD patrol divisions with sports balls for officers to distribute during patrols.
Beyond giveaways, PLAY COS involves sports events, creating simple and enjoyable interactions. Originating in January 2021, the program has distributed over 6,000 balls, hosted 96 events, and contributed to community centers and schools. With 35,000 positive interactions, PLAY COS seeks to be a lasting community fixture, open to involvement and donations.
If you would like to become involved in the program and/or make a donation: Please reach out to the CSPD Community Relations Unit at 719-444-7410 or via email at [email protected]
π El Paso County Watches Denver's Migrant Challenges
El Paso County, including Colorado Springs, is closely watching the migrant situation unfolding in Denver as leaders advocate for congressional support. While Denver has spent over $38 million to aid migrants, El Paso County has not allocated funds. Mayor-elect Yemi Mobalade emphasizes no intention of making the city a sanctuary. The Pikes Peak Regional Office of Emergency Management is actively monitoring the situation, staying in contact with Denver officials, and preparing for potential developments.

π€― Stress Overload: The Silent Toll of Adrenal Fatigue
In today's fast-paced world, stress-related conditions are on the rise, impacting various aspects of health. One often-overlooked area vulnerable to stress is the adrenal glands, located near the kidneys. These glands play a crucial role in producing hormones essential for the body's proper functioning. Prolonged stress weakens the adrenal glands, leading to a condition known as adrenal fatigue.
Here are 5 symptoms to watch for:
Persistent Fatigue: Stress elevates hormone levels, making it difficult to sleep, leading to constant tiredness even after apparent rest.
Cravings for Salty or Sugary Foods: Adrenal fatigue lowers blood sugar, causing cravings for energy-rich foods, particularly sugary or salty snacks.
Evening Energy Surges: Sufferers may feel tired all day but experience a sudden energy surge in the late evening, disrupting sleep patterns.
Difficulty Handling Stress: Adrenal fatigue impairs the body's stress response, affecting cortisol, adrenaline, and norepinephrine release. This can lead to increased difficulty in handling stress.
Increased Vulnerability to Infections: Prolonged cortisol imbalance weakens the immune system, resulting in more infections. Conversely, adrenal weakness can lead to overreactions, causing autoimmune disorders.
Despite their importance, adrenal glands are rarely discussed in the medical community. Understanding their role is crucial for addressing the silent toll of adrenal fatigue. Stay tuned this week explore more about adrenal fatigue, including practical tips for those who suspect they may be experiencing symptomsβ¦we are in this category as well so our staff will be implementing what we share. π€
