π‘ Insurance Dilemma: CO's Quest for Solutions
Insurance costs in Colorado have been on the rise, prompting the state's Insurance Commissioner, Michael Conway, to engage in discussions with legislators for potential solutions. The recently enacted FAIR Plan, designed as a last resort for property owners struggling to secure insurance, is expected to provide coverage by 2025. Conway emphasizes that it is not a government insurance provider, ensuring the state doesn't assume risks.
Addressing concerns about homeowners associations (HOA), Conway mentions upcoming legislation aimed at studying ways to enhance affordability in the HOA insurance market. Despite increasing HOA dues, he believes large insurance providers are unlikely to withdraw from the Colorado market entirely, and preparations have been made to address potential challenges.
π Miss America Inspires at Jackson Elementary
Photo provided by Colorado Springs School District 11
Madison Marsh, the newly crowned Miss America and graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, is scheduled to make a visit to Jackson Elementary today. This marks a return to the elementary school where she previously engaged with students and coordinated visits for other cadets. Jackson Elementary, part of Colorado Springs School District 11 (D11), follows the AVID program, focusing on college and career readiness. During her visit from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., Marsh will address an assembly of students and visit classrooms to support their educational journey.
ποΈ Downtown Dilemma: Retailers Seek Local Love β€οΈ
Downtown Colorado Springs retail businesses face challenges, with City Council urging local support. A recent fire on Bijou Street prolongs closures, and the Downtown Partnership notes a 4% sales drop through October. Late-year incidents, including fires and power outages, contributed to setbacks, along with inflation and increased costs. Despite challenges, optimism surrounds expectations for improvement in the coming year, however, if itβs possible for the community to make it a point to patron these downtown businesses, it would really help.
