🌷 Planting COS City Flower Beds, Want to Help?
Colorado Springs implements sustainable practices in spring planting, focusing on native plants for city flowerbeds. Greenhouse crews cultivate seedlings for strong, low-maintenance perennials, benefiting pollinators and birds. The city also adopts a cost-saving strategy by using self-mixed planting material.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of Springs in Bloom, a community-driven initiative where volunteers contribute to planting city beds. While some slots for volunteers remain available, the program serves as a testament to the collaborative effort in maintaining the city's vibrant floral landscape.
🎈 Mylar Balloon Caused Power Outage
A rogue Mylar balloon caused a power outage affecting nearly 10,000 customers primarily in the vicinity northwest of Peterson Space Force Base and the Colorado Springs Airport on Monday. As a cautionary reminder, Springs Utilities emphasizes the collective responsibility in ensuring the safe coexistence of balloons and power lines, highlighting the profound impact even a single rogue balloon can have on thousands of customers' electricity supply.
🚥 Traffic Impact: Electric System Upgrade
Colorado Springs Utilities launches a new electric project on N. Nevada Ave., enhancing system reliability. The project entails the removal of overhead circuits and the installation of a 600-amp underground electric system spanning from E. Harrison Street to E. Commerce Street.
Residents and commuters are advised to anticipate traffic disruptions along the northbound lane of N. Nevada Ave. Additionally, access to E. Harrison Street will be restricted through March 22nd, necessitating a detour route via Lilac Street and N. Weber Street.
For inquiries or additional project information, community members are encouraged to reach out to the dedicated community engagement team via phone at 719-668-7765 or email at [email protected].
🚨 Fatal Incident: Northeast Park Shooting
A tragic incident unfolded at High Meadows Park in northeast Colorado Springs, where police responded to reports of a shooting just before 5 p.m. Wednesday evening. The park, located near Springs Ranch Elementary School in the vicinity of Peterson Road and North Carefree Circle, became the scene of a fatal shooting that claimed one life and left another individual critically injured.
This is an active investigation. If anyone has information regarding this incident or was a witness, please contact CSPD at 719-444-7000. No further details were available at the time of publication.
