πΈ Action Plan: Pedestrian Safety Upgrade
Colorado Springs officials have been spurred into action on pedestrian safety after a recent crosswalk fatality at Cascade Avenue and Sunflower Road. They are placing new no-right-on-red signs at the intersection of Colorado and Nevada avenues to remind drivers of existing laws and to protect pedestrians. A yearlong grant program is set to evaluate intersection safety and suggest improvements. Downtown crosswalks now feature pedestrian-controlled signals to stop left-turning traffic.
Additionally, the city acknowledges safety concerns for pedestrians using the deteriorating bridge at the T-intersection of Highway 85-87, B Street, and Venetucci, built in 1956, and is exploring options to enhance safety there, despite no current plans for reconstruction.
π‘ Cyber Firm Chooses CO Springs
Invictus International Consulting, specializing in cybersecurity solutions, is set to expand its operations to Colorado Springs, a decision announced by Governor Polis and OEDIT. This move will contribute to the local economy by creating 130 new jobs with average salaries well above the county's norm. It also represents a significant addition to Colorado's aerospace and defense sector. Invictus's expansion is supported by state and local tax incentives and was chosen over other potential locations due to Colorado Springs's rich military heritage and commitment to technological innovation.
π΅ Retire in Co-op Style
Colorado Springs now hosts the Village Cooperative of Ute Valley, catering to seniors desiring home ownership without the hassle of maintenance. The cooperative provides secure, accessible living spaces with amenities that encourage an active community life. Residents, who have a say in the co-op's management, benefit financially and socially, enjoying a variety of organized activities and the freedom from household upkeep.
π¨ Neighborhood On Alert Post-Shooting
UPDATE from yesterday: The search for a suspect continues in following a deadly shooting at High Meadows Park, causing concern among residents about neighborhood safety. The local community, including many families who visit the park regularly, are now taking extra precautions. The police are investigating the incident as a homicide and emphasize that the event seems to be an isolated one.
Springs Ranch Elementary School (near Peterson Road and North Carefree Circle) has responded by stepping up security measures, and residents are ensuring their homes are secure. Authorities are seeking information and encourage witnesses to contact them at 719-444-7000 or Crimestoppers anonymously.
