Mortgage rates linger at 6.88% as of March 7. While slightly increased from last year, experts foresee a potential decline ahead, especially with expected Fed rate cuts. Forecasts vary: Freddie Mac sees rates above 6.5% near-term, while Fannie Mae predicts 5.9% by year-end. The Mortgage Bankers Association forecasts 6.1% for 2024, with further dips in 2025.
