UPDATE 3/12/24: Fire is 90% Contained and suspected to have been started by a truck dragging chains.

Multiple wildfires erupted near Colorado Springs airport yesterday afternoon with visible smoke; over 500 acres burned, one structure lost, fire perimeter contained around 6:15 PM, and slow eastward spread reported by Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD). The airport and flights are not affected at this time. Marsheffel is currently closed between Drennan and Hwy 94.

🏎️ 5 Women to Conquer Pikes Peak in Hill Climb

This summer's Pikes Peak International Hill Climb will feature five exceptional women, both veterans and rookies, showcasing their racing skills and resilience. Among the veterans are Kathryn Mead, Laura Hayes, and Loni Unser, each bringing their own experience and achievements to the event. Joining them are rookies Mary Barker and Ryan Cheek, embarking on their inaugural PPIHC journey with remarkable stories of determination. The event promises an exciting display of talent and determination on iconic Pikes Peak.

🏞️ Pikeview Quarry Reimagined

Colorado Springs aims to repurpose Pikeview Quarry, a historic landmark near Blodgett Peak. For over a century, the quarry provided limestone for various construction projects in the city, including roads and buildings like the Air Force Academy. Operations ceased in 2018. Efforts are focused on stabilizing the area and addressing environmental impacts. Reclamation is set to conclude next year, with the city to acquire this land for public use. Ideas include transforming it into a mountain bike park, expanding recreational options.
