📖 The Story Behind Mountain View Books

A trove of literary treasures awaits in Old Colorado City. Mountain View Books, a cozy used bookstore, opened its doors this past February.

Two friends, Mike Riordan and Melinda Dean bonded over their shared love of books. For over thirty years, Mike accumulated an epic collection through estate sales, auctions, and private booksellers (where he and Melinda first crossed paths). His vast bounty includes comics, rare military history, art & photography collections, and more. After caring for his ailing wife and grieving her loss, Mike hoped to share these collections with fellow book lovers.

After the loss of Melinda’s husband, a chance reconnection with Mike at a book sale sparked an idea – they would one day open the vintage bookstore they’d always imagined. Combining their skill sets and vision, Mountain View Books was born.

With twenty-five percent of Mike’s collection gracing the shelves so far, every visit uncovers new literary treasures. Beyond selling used books and DVDs, they aim to build community through collecting books from fellow booklovers.

Part bookstore, part “time capsule”, Mountain View Books transports visitors back to simpler days of getting lost in a story. Mike and Melinda’s infectious passion reminds us why we fell in love with books. Treat yourself to wander through the stacks, letting serendipity guide you to your next great read.

🚧 Lane Reductions & Erosion Closure

Lane reductions are scheduled along North Academy between Shrider Road and Voyager Parkway for maintenance paving until March 25, while emergency roadwork on northbound I-25 near S. Academy Blvd. is causing a lane closure and exit closure due to erosion near the bridge.

💣 Construction Worker Discovers Old Mortar Round

A construction worker made a startling discovery yesterday morning, when they unearthed what appeared to be an old mortar round at a construction site near the intersection of Hancock Expressway and Astrozon. CSPD responded to the scene just before 7:30 a.m. Upon investigation, it was determined, although old and rusted, it resembled a military explosive device. However, the CSPD's Regional Explosives Unit arrived and concluded that the item was hollow and inert. Subsequently, a bomb detection K9 searched the area, with no further suspicious devices being found.
