❄️ Icy Roads, Blowing Snow This Morning
Colorado Springs faces potential travel disruptions with snow and freezing temperatures that happened overnight, particularly impacting this morning’s commute. Blizzard conditions forecasted for northern El Paso County, with up to 7 inches of snow and high wind gusts. Expect blowing snow and icy roads, as temperatures dropped to 15°F overnight. Travel can be treacherous with roads improving after 9 AM when they start warming up. Tuesday may bring some relief with mostly sunny skies but a slight chance of snow showers in the afternoon.
🔥 House Fire in NE Springs Displaces Residents
A devastating house fire erupted on Vista Del Tierra Drive in Banning Lewis Ranch near Dublin Blvd, displacing six residents yesterday. The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) promptly received the call at 12:30 p.m. and swiftly arrived on the scene by 12:35 p.m. According to Ashley Franco, CSFD's Public Information Officer, the fire originated in a duplex and quickly extended to adjacent structures, resulting in significant damage to four units numbered 6287, 6293, 6299, and 6305. Franco attributed the fire's cause to a compromised gas line, exacerbating the severity of the blaze.
🚧 Roadwork Update: South Academy Project Shifts Ramp
Temporary on-ramp shift for drivers traveling from US 85/87 to northbound South Academy today. Motorists should expect reduced lane width to 12 feet and reduced speeds to 30 MPH, with the closure expected to last approximately 5-6 months. Caution is advised at all entrance ramps, particularly at merge points where lengths have been shortened. Signage and flashing beacons will be installed to alert drivers.
Additionally, ongoing lane closures are in place for northbound and southbound South Academy over Bradley Rd to facilitate bridge work, along with a shift of all lanes on Bradley Rd under the South Academy bridge. The closures are subject to weather conditions and may be modified accordingly.
🧊 Essential Post-Shoveling Moves
Stretching after shoveling snow is crucial to prevent muscle strain and injury, as it helps release tension built up during the physical exertion. These stretches also improve flexibility, reduce stiffness, and promote overall muscle recovery.
