๐ฆ Open House: Black Forest Intersection Plans
CDOT and Stanley Consultants present 4 intersection alternatives for CO 83 and Stagecoach Road in Black Forest. Open house on April 2 at Monument Academy, East Campus from 5 to 7 p.m.
Unlike a formal presentation, attendees are encouraged to drop in anytime during the open house to learn about the project, explore the proposed alternatives, engage with the team, provide feedback, and ask questions.
๐ Combatting Isolation: City's Call
Colorado Springs introduces the "1,000 Neighborhood Gatherings" initiative aimed at addressing isolation and loneliness within communities. With mental health concerns prevalent among adults and youth in Colorado, the initiative seeks to create stronger neighborhood bonds through planned gatherings and block parties.
Scheduled to start during Mental Health Awareness Month in May and extend until National Good Neighbor Day in September, residents are encouraged to host events and register them on the city's website to contribute to the goal of 1,000 gatherings. Mayor Mobolade urges all residents to participate, emphasizing the profound impact of fostering connections and support systems on individual and collective well-being.
๐๏ธ Penrose Funeral Home Demolition Date Set
April 16 is the scheduled demolition date for the Return to Nature Funeral Home in Penrose, where 190 improperly stored bodies were discovered last October. Following an assessment by the EPA, the delay was deemed necessary to safely remove hazardous materials.
Initially set for January 17, weather and logistical challenges contributed to the postponement. Now, officials have confirmed demolition will start on April 16, with minor preparations on April 8. All debris will be disposed of at the Otero County landfill, as agreements with other disposal sites fell through. The EPA, in collaboration with local authorities, utilities, and hazardous materials contractors, will oversee the the project and cleanup process, aiming for completion within 10 days, weather permitting.
