Holmes Middle School students experienced an extraordinary event as they witnessed a U.S. Air Force helicopter landing on their football field, thanks to a collaborative effort between the school, School District 11, and the Air Force. This special occasion was orchestrated with the assistance of Air Force Captain Andre Young, a graduate of Holmes Middle School and the U.S. Air Force Academy, whose mother serves as a staff member at the school.
The helicopter touched down at approximately 11:30 a.m., providing students with an opportunity to engage directly with Captain Young and other Air Force personnel. The event aimed to inspire students by showcasing real-world possibilities and fostering a deeper understanding of aviation.
๐ El Paso County Eyes New $15M Substation
The El Paso County Sheriffโs Office is suggesting the construction of its inaugural substation in Falcon, responding to the substantial expansion experienced in the area recently. The proposal entails allocating $15 million from the sheriffโs office budget, with payments of $1.2 million annually over two decades. The site for the substation, generously provided by the Falcon Fire Protection District, has garnered enthusiasm from local residents recognizing public safety as a paramount concern. The County Commissioners are slated to deliberate on the proposal on April 9.

๐๏ธ Trivia Tidbit: Journey into the Heart of Seven Falls
Tucked away in a majestic 1,400-foot-tall box canyon, Seven Falls stands as a mesmerizing natural marvel that has entranced travelers for over 140 years. Behold the thundering descent of seven distinct waterfalls cascading 387 feet, enveloped by towering granite cliffs and verdant foliage. Embark on hiking trails, zip line adventures, and delve into the rich history of this iconic Colorado gem.
Regrettably, the Pikes Peak region experienced what was referred to as a "500-year flood" following two summers of tragic fires and prolonged dry spells. The flood's impact was profound, upending trees, erasing pavement, and leaving the region mired in mud. This catastrophic event reshaped Seven Falls, necessitating its closure for over two years before eventual reopening.
Visitors are required to pay an entrance fee, which contributes to the upkeep and conservation of this precious natural treasure. While there are other attractions in the vicinity that are free to explore, a visit to Seven Falls is an experience worth indulging in at least once in a lifetime.
