🩸 CSFD Unveils Lifesaving Blood Program
Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) launches Colorado's inaugural whole blood program to provide critical transfusions before hospitalization during emergencies. Whole blood is blood that has none of its components missing and is safe to use for any blood type. With an aim to bridge the gap between injury and surgery, this initiative is projected to enhance survival rates by 40%. The program, set to start in May 2024, entails equipping emergency vehicles with coolers to preserve whole blood and training crews to administer transfusions promptly.
💰 Colorado Springs Utilities Secures Major Grant
Colorado Springs Utilities receives a $5.2 million grant from the PHMSA to bolster the city's natural gas infrastructure. The funding will facilitate the replacement of 314 bare steel service lines, enhancing safety and efficiency in older neighborhoods. This initiative aligns with ongoing efforts to maintain and upgrade the natural gas distribution system, contributing to long-term safety and environmental protection. Construction on the service lines is expected to start later this year.

Organized by Cadet Garret Burton, the event aimed to support those who serve the country, emphasizing public service and community involvement. Despite the adverse weather conditions, participants maintained a positive attitude, embracing the opportunity to learn new skills and contribute to a worthy cause. Read Full Story
