ποΈ Colorado Tax Overhaul: Major Changes Signed Into Law
Colorado's Governor, Jared Polis, signed five bills into law, introducing significant changes to the state's tax landscape. These changes include restructuring TABOR refunds to lower income and sales tax rates, providing billions of dollars in property tax cuts over three years, and expanding the senior property tax exemption.
Additionally, adjustments to tax expenditures aim to reduce the burden on working families, with an increase in the earned income tax credit. The new laws also facilitate data sharing to ensure eligible families receive state benefits and offer pre-populated tax returns to potentially eligible households.
π§ Fillmore Bridges: Maintenance Started
Here we go again! Prepare for road construction as maintenance work kicked off on Fillmore bridges, east of Interstate 25, started this week. Lasting eight months, the project includes repairs to the bridge deck, waterproofing, and an asphalt overlay. During the initial phase, one westbound lane will close, with limited turns from Steel Drive and Mark Dabling. Alternate routes are recommended due to anticipated delays.
β½ Gas Prices Rising in Colorado: EPA Mandate
Gas prices in southern Colorado are poised to increase as the region transitions to reformulated gasoline (RFG) mandated by the EPA to combat air pollution. RFG, designed to burn cleaner and reduce smog-forming pollutants, will replace conventional gasoline starting June 1st.
While the move aims to address environmental concerns, it comes with a cost increase for consumers. According to AAA projections, gas prices may surge by $0.30 per gallon over the next week or two, adding to the frustration of residents and Governor Polis, who has unsuccessfully appealed to waive the mandate.
