π Faster Response: New Fire Station for Northern Springs
Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) breaks ground on Fire Station #24 in northern Colorado Springs (near Pine Creek/Kettle Creek, and around Pikes Peak state college) to reduce response times amid city growth. The $10 million facility aims to be operational in 9-10 months, housing an engine, brush truck, and paramedic. Despite construction delays and rising material costs, CSFD is committed to enhancing community safety.
πΈ Speed Cameras Approved for Pedestrian Safety
This past Tuesday, Colorado Springs City Council sanctioned the deployment of speed safety cameras to bolster pedestrian safety, particularly in zones prone to high foot traffic. These mobile cameras, integrated into the Automated Vehicle Identification Systems (AVIS) ordinance, utilize radar technology to monitor and photograph vehicles exceeding speed limits. Placed strategically in school zones, residential areas, parks, and construction zones upon request, the initiative aims to mitigate risks in areas with heightened pedestrian vulnerability.
β The Perk's Last Pour
After three decades of service, The Perk, a cherished local coffee shop in downtown Colorado Springs, is bidding farewell as owners Don and Kay Heaberlin announce their retirement. Despite challenges such as rising rents, the Heaberlins express gratitude for the opportunity to create a welcoming space for the community. The cafe's last day of operation will be Sunday, May 26, with plans to support employees during the transition period.
