Yesterday, the Colorado Springs Fire Department and Animal Law Enforcement rescued a kitten trapped in a storm drain behind the Chili’s on Cheyenne Mountain Blvd. A good Samaritan's call led to the successful rescue, culminating in a heartwarming group photo with the rescued kitten.

🏫 D11 Approves Teacher Pay, Adds Bonuses

Colorado Springs District 11 Board of Education has approved a salary increase for teachers, effective July 1. The new agreement includes a one percent raise and a $5,000 signing bonus for teachers at chronically understaffed schools. Additionally, long-serving support staff will receive an annual bonus of $350. The district aims to address significant staffing shortages and enhance the recruitment and retention of qualified educators.

🏘️ HOT Team Faces Daily Challenges in the Springs

Colorado Springs Police Department's Homeless Outreach Team (HOT) is dedicated to offering resources and enforcing the law for the unhoused population. The team responds to numerous calls daily, often dealing with hazardous conditions. With the number of chronically homeless individuals rising and an increase in crime, the team has cleared over 300 felony warrants and 2,000 misdemeanor warrants annually. Despite their efforts, many individuals refuse assistance, complicating the resolution of homelessness issues.

***UPDATE From CSPD*** Chelsea and Audrey Garrett have been located and are safe. We appreciate your help spreading the word. Colorado Springs Police Department is seeking community assistance in locating Chelsea and Audrey Garrett, sisters aged 12 and 15, who went missing on May 24 around Black Forest Rd and East Woodmen, near Banning Lewis Ranch. Chelsea is described as 5'3" tall, 113 pounds, with long brown hair and brown eyes, while Audrey is 5'2" tall, 110 pounds, also with long brown hair and brown eyes. CSPD considers them runaways and has concerns for Chelsea's safety. Anyone with information is urged to contact CSPD at 719-444-7000 or Crime Stoppers (719) 634-STOP (7867).
