🔥 Smoke Alert: Controlled Burn Near Monument
The El Paso County Sheriff's Wildland Fire Unit, in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service, is conducting a prescribed burn near Monument, to manage 1,000 acres and reduce wildfire risk. The controlled burn, lasting several days, will produce visible smoke, but it’s part of a safe operation aimed at maintaining forest health. Residents are advised not to call 911 for smoke sightings related to this activity. Travel and trail access in the area will be restricted.
🍽️ Downtown Dining Faces Hard Times
Restaurants in Colorado Springs are experiencing a wave of closures due to the compounded effects of inflation, labor shortages, and financial challenges lingering from the pandemic. With restaurant inflation in Colorado far exceeding the national average, local establishments are finding it increasingly difficult to stay open. Notable recent downtown closures include The Well, The Lemon Lodge, and The Perk Downtown. Restaurant owners are calling for more support from the city to help local businesses survive and ask locals to come in and eat at their Mom and Pop restaurants.
🏞️ Rainbow Falls Welcomes Visitors Back June 14
Rainbow Falls is set to reopen tomorrow, June 14 with enhanced safety measures following a rockfall incident that caused a temporary closure. A new parking area has been established at Higginbotham Flats in Manitou Springs, with shuttle services provided to the falls. The $20 fee per car includes parking and the shuttle service. Visitors are advised to make reservations online to ensure a smooth visit.
🥭 Fresh Mango Salsa
This simple and colorful mango salsa is super easy to make! It’s sweet, spicy and absolutely delicious. Serve this fresh mango salsa with chips, on tacos or salads, or as a salad itself. It’s that good. Recipe yields about 3 cups salsa.
