🎠 Nostalgic Carousel Spins Again at CMZoo
Yesterday, the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo celebrated the reopening of its historic carousel (built in 1926), originally brought to the zoo by founder Spencer Penrose in 1937. Closed for nearly a year due to construction, the carousel has been relocated between Grizzly Grill and Lodge at Moose Lake, for a more central visitor experience. The event drew large crowds, offering free rides and showcasing the restored organ and hand-carved horses. With fewer than 150 of these carousels remaining in North America, the attraction holds significant historical value.
📬 Beware El Paso County Residents Targeted by Tax Scam
The El Paso County Assessor’s office is alerting residents about a scam involving fraudulent letters that falsely claim recipients owe federal taxes and face asset seizure. These letters, labeled “DISTRAINT WARRANT Tax Assessment Securities Public Judgment Records,” are not issued by the county and are intended to deceive.
Residents are advised to ignore such threats and report them to local authorities. For concerns about tax status, residents should visit the county’s property tax website, and further information on scams is available on the IRS website. For more information and an image of the fraudulent letter, click for the pdf from the Assessor’s office.
🔊 Fort Carson Exercise Today: Expect Noise and Smoke
Today, Friday June 14, from 6:30 to 9 am, Fort Carson's 4th Infantry Division will be conducting a training exercise that is expected to generate increased noise and visible smoke, impacting surrounding communities. The base emphasizes its efforts to balance training needs with the comfort of neighboring residents and encourages those affected to contact the Fort Carson Public Affairs Office with concerns at (719) 526-9849.
