๐ฆ Celebrate World Giraffe Day Today at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo
Cheyenne Mountain Zoo will celebrate World Giraffe Day today with various giraffe-themed activities and educational opportunities. Each of the zoo's six giraffes has distinct features (learn more on their Facebook post) that make them unique, and the zoo is sharing tips on how to identify them.
The event, held today from 9am to 2pm in the African Rift Valley area, includes feeding opportunities, a giraffe fan parade, and several educational booths. Attendees are encouraged to participate and learn more about giraffes while enjoying the festivities.
๐ฑ Mountain Shadows Tank Filling Begins Amid Legal Battle
Courtesy of Colorado Springs Utilities
Colorado Springs Utilities will start filling a new 60-foot-tall water tank in the Mountain Shadows neighborhood, despite legal challenges from local residents and the Flying W Ranch. The plaintiffs argue the City Councilโs approval process was flawed due to a conflict of interest. They seek to prevent the removal of an older tank until the court rules on the matter. The new tank is expected to be operational by the end of June, with a court hearing scheduled for September to address the plaintiffsโ concerns. *Source
๐๏ธ Will Voters Decide on Height Limits?
Councilman Dave Donelson has proposed a ballot measure to limit downtown building heights in Colorado Springs to 250 feet. The proposal, backed by over 5,400 residents, aims to preserve scenic views and maintain the cityโs unique character. The Chamber of Commerce opposes the measure, arguing it would hinder efforts to address housing shortages and promote efficient urban development.
Donelson is calling on residents to support the initiative by contacting council members and attending a crucial work session on June 24 at 1:00 pm to help push for a vote on the measure, which could then appear on the November ballot. Full Story
