🎇 Keep It Safe: CSFD’s Fireworks Alert
In a lighthearted yet poignant Facebook post, the Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) has reminded the community of the city's ban on all fireworks, including sparklers. With July 4th around the corner, the department emphasized the dangers fireworks pose to personal safety and the high fire risk in Southern Colorado. CSFD suggests residents enjoy professional, CSFD-approved fireworks displays instead. They also noted the negative impact of fireworks on pets and individuals with PTSD. Residents are encouraged to turn in any fireworks at local fire stations to ensure safety and compliance with the law.
💰 CSU: Rebates for Energy Efficiency Now
Colorado Springs Utilities (CSU) is asking residents to reduce their energy use during peak hours, from 4-8pm, as part of its efforts to adapt to new environmental regulations, technological advancements, and increased renewable energy usage. CSU highlights that lowering energy consumption during these times helps reduce costs, minimizes the strain on the electric grid and natural gas systems, and decreases carbon emissions. To assist in these efforts, CSU offers rebates on energy-efficient devices and home upgrades. Residents are encouraged to perform energy-intensive activities outside of peak hours to support this initiative and contribute to maintaining reliable utility services.
👩✈️ Class of 2028 Starts Journey at USAFA
Yesterday, the U.S. Air Force Academy held its annual In-Processing Day to welcome the Class of 2028, which consists of over 1,100 new cadets. The day began with the cadets taking an oath of service at the Holaday Athletic Center, officially becoming Basic Cadets. The initial training phase, spanning six weeks, includes an introduction to Air Force customs, courtesies, and dress standards, culminating in their induction into the Cadet Wing during the Acceptance Day Parade in August. The Class of 2028 was chosen from a highly competitive pool of over 10,000 applicants and features cadets from 16 different countries.
Local families are encouraged to participate in the Cadet Sponsorship Program to provide a supportive home environment for the cadets. Will you be a sponsor or know anyone who might be interested?
🌿 Green Goddess Pasta
This recipe brings together a harmonious blend of bright, fresh, salty, and creamy flavors. The sauce, made similarly to pesto, offers garlicky, herby notes reminiscent of green goddess dressing. The mix of herbs is flexible, but tarragon, basil, and chives create a delightful starting point.
