A Colorado Springs couple is questioning CSPD’s drone practices after a police drone followed their vehicle from the area of a disturbance near Hancock and Fillmore on Aug. 4. Jessica and Matt had heard the nearby commotion and were leaving for dinner when a drone began following their car, eventually leading to an officer stopping them at a gas station. The couple was not involved in the disturbance and questioned why their connection to the call wasn’t checked before they were followed.
CSPD says drones can reach scenes faster than officers and provide valuable real-time information about potential suspects, weapons, fires and other safety concerns. The department deployed drones more than 7,000 times through July 26 this year, and they arrived before officers 69% of the time.
While the couple agrees the technology can be beneficial, their experience has raised concerns for them about how it is used when innocent residents are nearby. Full Story

🌲 Go Behind the Scenes With CPW

Colorado Parks and Wildlife is bringing its first-ever Citizens Academy to Colorado Springs, offering residents a free behind-the-scenes look at the agency’s work in wildlife, conservation and outdoor recreation.
The six-week program meets every Wed from Sept 16 through Oct. 21, from 6-8:30 pm, at the CPW Southeast Region Office, 4255 Sinton Road. Participants will learn directly from CPW professionals, including K9 handlers, aquatic biologists and boating investigators.
The academy is open to all ages but is best suited for teens and adults, and participants are asked to attend all six sessions. Registration is free and closes Sept. 13, with limited space available. Full Story
👻 Haunted Manitou Ghost Tours
Experience Manitou Springs after dark with this 75-minute walking adventure through the town's most intriguing and mysterious past.
Julia and Adam, who created this experience as a 'love letter to Manitou,' combines carefully researched history with interactive fun, including haunted bingo, video evidence of local poltergeists, and stories ranging from the famous Emma Crawford to the lesser-known Manitou Springs witches.
Tours run Thurs-Sun at 7:30 and 9 pm, starting at the train car across from City Hall and Memorial Park. Whether you're planning date night, showing visitors around, or you're a curious local, this light PG-13 experience reveals the eclectic, macabre stories that make our town unforgettable.
