🦒 Giraffe Cams Are LIVE!

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo has launched 2 free live giraffe cameras, offering daily views of the herd from about 8:45am-4:45pm. The cameras arrive alongside the opening of the Zoo's new 12,000-square-foot Giraffe Center and expanded habitat, which gives the giraffes more room and more choices about how they spend their day.
The outdoor yard is 25% larger, feeding zones have increased from 3 to 11, and new areas encourage the herd to explore the hillsides. Visitors can also experience the new space in person, with giraffe feeding available daily from 9am- 5pm.
The opening comes during the Zoo's Centennial Celebration, which continues with special activities through Sunday, Sept. 20.

🎢 Utility Rates Take Another Turn
Colorado Springs Utilities is proposing an electric fuel-rate decrease that would trim about $1.54 from the average residential customer's monthly bill starting Oct 1, if approved by City Council on Sept 22.
Springs Utilities says it has saved approximately $7 million since joining the Southwest Power Pool in April, based on results through June, by gaining greater flexibility to buy lower-cost electricity and sell excess power. Those savings are being passed back through the fuel rate.
Although $1.54 is a relatively small change, and fuel rates are only one part of the overall utility bill. As we know, there were decreases and increases throughout the year that it’s easy to lose track on what may be coming next.
The bigger question for customers may be whether these savings continue to show up on our bills as other utility costs and proposed charges come along.

FEMA has approved more than $90 million in grants across Colorado to help communities recover from and guard against disaster. Colorado Springs is one of the bigger local beneficiaries.
Here's what's coming our way: $8 million for the Cottonwood Creek floodplain restoration project, delivering 100-year flood protection and safeguarding homes and utilities. Another $2.6 million goes to the city to repair a water drainage system and embankments damaged by severe storms, flooding, and tornadoes. And $2.9 million is earmarked for Monument Creek stabilization, reducing erosion and flood risk and improving water quality.
That's more than $13.5 million in federal investment headed to Colorado Springs infrastructure. Across the state, the $90M+ spans FEMA's Public Assistance and Hazard Mitigation Grant Programs, supporting communities from the Front Range to Longmont. Full Story
