Oct through Dec is the deadliest stretch of the year for wildlife on Colorado roads, and Colorado State Patrol wants drivers to know before they find out the hard way. Nearly 4,000 wildlife crashes were reported across the state last year alone, and the number has climbed every year since 2021.

Animals are on the move. Migration pushes deer, elk, pronghorn, and bear down from higher elevations during fall, and mating season makes their behavior unpredictable. Some of the highest-risk roads near us: I-25 between Castle Rock and Larkspur, Hwy 24, Hwy 50, and Hwy 160.

CSP's most important tip: if you see an animal and there is no time to stop, stay in your lane and brake firmly instead of swerving. Use your brights when safe, watch for eye shine, and remember that where there is one animal, there are almost always more nearby. If you do hit an animal, pull over and call 911. Full Story

πŸ’° 123 Jobs Averaging $90K+

Big economic news for our southeast side: Accu-Precision, a Littleton-based aerospace manufacturer, has chosen Colorado Springs to build a new 110,000-square-foot facility near Aerospace Blvd, Drennan Rd, and Marksheffel. The project brings 123 new jobs with average wages over $90,000 a year.

The company makes precision parts and assemblies for aerospace and industrial customers. Leadership specifically highlighted the proximity to Peterson Space Force Base and Fort Carson as key factors in choosing this location, with veteran recruitment a priority.

Hiring begins as early as next summer, with the facility expected to be operational by spring 2028. The state has approved up to $1.7M in performance-based tax credits tied to the company meeting its job and salary commitments. Full Story

πŸ’” 17 Deaths, and Possibly More

El Paso County is reporting its first increase in domestic violence deaths since the COVID-19 pandemic

El Paso County is reporting its first increase in domestic violence deaths since the COVID-19 pandemic. The county coroner's most recent annual report recorded 17 deaths linked to domestic violence in 2025, up from 9 the year before.

What makes the number harder to absorb is what it does not yet capture. When families cannot or will not answer questions about a loved one's situation, those deaths go untracked. The coroner's office believes the real count is higher than what the data reflects.

Local organization TESSA is partnering with the coroner's office through a newly formed Domestic Violence Fatality Review Team to identify missed warning signs and support earlier intervention. The county also plans to release this data quarterly going forward. If you or someone you know needs support, TESSA's 24/7 safeline is (719) 633-3819 or visit tessacs.org. Full Story
