🎳 This Is What 100 Looks Like

We talk a lot about staying active as we age. Meet two people who do not just talk about it.

William Owen Hanna celebrated his 100th birthday

William Owen Hanna celebrated his 100th birthday on October 4 in the most perfect way: surrounded by loved ones at MacDade Bowl in Holmes, Pa, where he has bowled nearly every week for decades. An Army veteran and devoted church deacon for 70 years, William is not slowing down. His family surprised him at the lanes, and the joy in those photos says everything about a life lived well.

Margaret Lines is also 100 years old. She has been bowling for 82 years and still shows up every Tuesday. Her secret? "Keep moving, sleep well, eat well, and help others."

Sound familiar? It is exactly what Kristen teaches us every two weeks right here in Town Tidings. Will you be as vibrant and strong like William and Margaret when YOU turn 100?! πŸ˜‰

πŸ›’ Scored a Deal? Make Sure It's Legit

Scored a Deal? Make Sure It's Legit

If it looks like a steal, it might literally be one. Stolen goods are being resold online through social media marketplaces and local classified sites. Savvy shoppers need to know the warning signs before clicking "buy."

The biggest red flag: a price that's too good to be true. If someone is selling a "barely used" item at a fraction of retail, ask yourself why. Other warning signs include sellers who insist on unusual payment methods, refuse to meet in a public place, or cannot provide a receipt or proof of purchase.

To protect yourself: meet in a safe exchange zone (many police departments have designated spots in their lots), search the item's serial number online before paying, and trust your instincts. Colorado Springs Police can be reached at their non-emergency line, 719-444-7000, if you suspect stolen merchandise is being sold. Full Story

❄ CSU Says Do This Before It Freezes

Temperatures will be dropping (not this week yet but it is coming), and Colorado Springs Utilities wants homeowners to be ready. A local water conservation specialist has specific advice, and some of it might surprise you.

First: keep watering your lawn once a week for now, using your usual run-times. When rain arrives, skip the cycle. For winterizing your sprinkler system, hire a professional with a commercial-grade compressor rather than using a standard homeowner model, which often does not push enough air to do the job properly.

While you're at it: top off your mulch around trees and perennials, mow over fallen leaves to mulch them into your lawn instead of raking, and keep leaves out of storm drains to prevent flooding. A little prep now saves a costly headache next spring. Full Story
