🚧 Traffic Heads-Up: I-25 Overnight Repairs

Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) started work focusing on guardrail and pothole repairs which kicked off Monday night. Motorists traveling through downtown Colorado Springs between US 24 and Fillmore St. should anticipate overnight lane closures from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Wednesday night. Traffic will be detoured to maintain one eastbound lane, with a reduced speed limit of 55 mph. The repair initiative emphasizes safety with cautionary measures for drivers, including staying alert, avoiding distractions, and adhering to speed limits.

πŸ‘©β€πŸš€ Stellar Conversation: D2 Kids Talk to Astronauts

Harrison School District 2 students in Colorado Springs are set to engage in a space chat with the International Space Station on Feb. 2, 2024. The event is facilitated by Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS), connecting students globally with astronauts. Former astronauts prepared the students in an assembly yesterday, who have been studying space-related topics for a year, for the upcoming chat. Excitement for these students will be out of this world!

🐾🏈 COS K-9 Duo Heads to Super Bowl

K-9 "Donut" and Officer Rodney Biechler from the Colorado Springs Police Department are set to provide security at Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas. Donut, a German Shorthaired Pointer, utilizes her exceptional sense of smell to search for explosives, ensuring the safety of major events like the Super Bowl. The duo, having previously secured last year's Super Bowl, exemplifies dedication and expertise in their mission to safeguard large gatherings. Out of all the places they could call for this expertise, it hails from our hometown of COS!

National News: πŸ†˜ Airbag Alert - Toyota's Recall

Toyota urgently advises 50,000 U.S. vehicle owners, spanning certain 2003-2005 models, to address immediate recall repairs due to potential airbag inflator explosions. The recall, linked to Takata inflators, follows a decade-long global effort involving over 67 million recalled inflators. Toyota specifies affected models, including Corolla, Corolla Matrix, and RAV4, emphasizing the severity of the issue and urging owners to contact their dealers promptly.

🏞️ Red Rock Canyon's Hidden Past

Let's step back in time to the 1920s, when John George Bock, a cowboy and entrepreneur, acquired the land near the entrance to Red Rock Canyon and operated the Roundup Stables, offering scenic horseback rides through nearby canyons. In the 1920s and 1930s, he purchased adjacent parcels and began trying to repair the extensive damages caused by quarrying. Bock also constructed a road to the top of the hogback and built a small house there.

In the early 1900s, he planned to develop a Club Med resort in the Rockies but didn't proceed due to opposition from a broad coalition across the Pikes Peak region. After he passed, the property was willed to his two sons, John and Richard.

The property was eventually purchased by the City of Colorado Springs in 2003 for $12.5 million, preserving it as public open space. Red Rock Canyon Open Space officially opened to the public in 2003, providing a recreational paradise for outdoor enthusiasts.

Discover Serenity at Mesa, Greenlee, and Red Rock Canyon Path Loop with the Mountain Pose 🏞️

In this tranquil loop, pause and embrace the grounding Mountain Pose. Stand tall, feet hip-width apart, arms by your sides, and breathe deeply multiple times and take in the awareness of your surroundings while connecting with the stability of the surrounding red rocks.

Achieve Balance at Upper Dog Loop with the Tree Pose 🌳

As you continue your journey practice the Tree Pose. Shift your weight to one leg, place the sole of the other foot on the inner thigh or calf, and extend your arms overhead like branches. Enhance balance and harmonize with the natural equilibrium of the landscape.

Revitalize at Sand Canyon Trail with the Downward Dog Pose 🐩

Complete your trail yoga experience at Sand Canyon Trail. Engage in the Downward Dog Pose - hands on the ground, hips lifted, forming an inverted V-shape. This pose stretches your spine, hamstrings, and shoulders, offering a revitalizing pause amidst the scenic beauty.

These simple yet impactful poses encourage mindfulness, connecting you to the present moment and the beauty that surrounds you. Trail yoga becomes a holistic journey, harmonizing the serenity of nature with the wellness of your body and mind.
