🏗️ Bill Aims to Revive Condo Construction

State lawmakers are addressing the stagnation in condominium construction in the Pikes Peak Region with a proposed bill aimed at incentivizing developers. The affordability of condos makes them an attractive housing option, yet their construction has declined significantly due to high insurance costs and legal risks associated with construction defects. Currently, insurance premiums for condo projects are prohibitively high, leading builders to favor apartment complexes.

The proposed legislation seeks to mitigate these challenges by limiting the window for filing construction defect claims and providing homeowners with alternative avenues for repairs, reducing the reliance on costly lawsuits. Despite acknowledging the complexity of the housing crisis, stakeholders view this bill as a step in the right direction. The legislation is now under review by the local government and housing committee.

📬 Property Tax Statements Delayed: Online Relief Offered

Property tax bills in El Paso County are delayed for some homeowners, but they can be accessed online. The treasurer's office advises checking the website for statements, which may reflect lower amounts due to TABOR refunds and reduced mill levies.

🏫 Success of Free School Lunch Program

Local food bank, Solid Rock Community Food Center, praises the impact of Proposition FF, providing free school lunches to all Colorado public school students, easing financial burdens for families and ensuring children have access to regular meals. The Healthy School Meals for All program, funded by wealthier state residents through adjusted tax deductions, aims to address food insecurity among school children.
