🩺 Children's Hospital Offers Paid Internships

Children's Hospital in Colorado Springs launches MC2 program, offering high school interns hands-on medical experience and paid opportunities, aiming to build a diverse healthcare workforce.

Students receive comprehensive training through workshops, certifications, mentorship, and professional development sessions. The hospital emphasizes the program's success, with over 110 former students now working as nurses, physician’s assistants, and social workers. Applications for the 2024-2025 program are open until March 6, 2024, targeting current high school sophomores in El Paso County.

🥜 There’s still time: Peanut Butter & Jelly Drive

Care and Share Food Bank, in partnership with KRDO, launched the Spread The Love Peanut Butter and Jelly Drive running through this Friday, Feb 16th. Urging community support, the initiative aims to gather peanut butter, a valuable protein source, and jars of jelly for those in need.

🚧 Road Closures: CDOT I-25 Enhancements

I-25 project started Sunday from Fillmore to Garden of the Gods aims to add acceleration and deceleration lanes, enhancing traffic flow and safety. Reconstruction and widening of the aging bridge on Ellston Street over I-25, along with repairs to the Garden of the Gods overpass structure, are also part of the plan.

Work hours are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Mon-Thurs. Motorists should anticipate lane closures on I-25 and potential closures on on-ramps and off-ramps during construction. Anticipated completion: late Nov. 2025.

🚨 Crash Aftermath: The Skirted Heifer Affected

In the aftermath of a violent domestic dispute downtown Colorado Springs, a chaotic scene unfolded early Sunday morning as a man crashed into several downtown stores. The collision, which occurred on North Tejon just before 2 a.m., followed a series of alarming events stemming from a domestic altercation blocks away.

Among the affected businesses, The Skirted Heifer bore the brunt of the impact and is closed until repairs can be made. The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Fidencio Meza-Pelayo, was subsequently arrested and now faces charges including kidnapping, assault, burglary, and traffic violations.
