🗳️ Ready, Set, Vote: Primary Ballots Arrive
Colorado Springs Clerk and Recorder mailed over 450,000 ballots for March 5 Presidential Primary, urging voters to participate. Unaffiliated voters receive both Republican and Democratic candidate ballots, emphasizing the importance of returning only one.
Secure ballot drop boxes and postal service options are provided for ballot returns, with a recommendation not to mail ballots after February 26. Replacement ballots and in-person services are available at Voter Service and Polling Centers (VSPCs), with additional locations opening later. For more election information, voters can contact the Clerk’s Election Department.
🏛️ City Council Passes Anti-Sanctuary Resolution
Colorado Springs City Council passes resolution rejecting sanctuary city status, sparking community protests. Despite dissent from residents, the resolution aims to prevent city resources from aiding migrants, citing potential financial strain and security concerns.
While the resolution may not have legal implications, it reflects broader political sentiments within the community. City council members are urging residents to continue voicing their opinions at upcoming meetings.
🚗 Colorado's Crackdown on Distracted Driving: What You Need to Know
Colorado is addressing the growing concern of distracted driving by proposing stricter penalties for phone use behind the wheel. With the increasing prevalence of smartphones, distracted driving has become a significant issue contributing to the state's high rate of traffic fatalities. The proposed bill, if passed, would impose stricter regulations on phone use while driving, particularly targeting adults.
Currently, teens are prohibited from any phone use while driving, but for adults, the rules are less stringent, allowing for hands-free calling but prohibiting texting. The new bill seeks to close this gap by permitting only hands-free calling while driving. Violators of the proposed law could face fines, with first-time offenders having the option to waive the fine by proving the purchase of a hands-free device. However, subsequent offenses within a two-year period would incur a hefty fine of $150 and a three-point penalty on the driver's license.
