π§ββοΈ U.S. Air Force Cadet Leaders Rise
Cadets at the U.S. Air Force Academy Mountaineering Club embark on exhilarating journeys, from conquering their first 14,000-foot peak to navigating ice climbing adventures in picturesque locales like Ouray.
Led by dedicated cadet leaders like Alyssa Hargis, the club not only offers thrilling outdoor experiences but also serves as a platform for personal growth and camaraderie. Through rock and ice climbing, hiking, and skiing, cadets hone their leadership, problem-solving, and teamwork skills in a supportive environment. Experienced members mentor newer recruits, fostering a culture of mentorship and skill-sharing. The club's impact extends beyond the Academy, with alumni achieving remarkable feats like summiting Mount Everest and rescuing stranded hikers in the Rocky Mountains.

π Heartbreak at UCCS: Victims Identified
The El Paso County Coroner's Office has revealed the identities of two individuals discovered deceased in a dorm room at the University of Colorado - Colorado Springs (UCCS) campus. The incident unfolded after authorities responded to reports of gunfire at the Crestone House dorms around 5:59 a.m. this past Friday, prompting an investigation by the Colorado Springs Police Department's Homicide Unit.
While classes were canceled on Friday and lockdown measures implemented, they were swiftly lifted thereafter. Police have stated that the deaths, identified as 26-year-old Celie Rain Montgomery and 24-year-old Samuel Knopp, are being treated as homicides and not as a murder-suicide. UCCS is providing counseling resources for those affected.
The community is invited to partake in a healing walk this afternoon, Feb. 19 that aims to provide solace to the UCCS student population, still reeling from the loss. Beginning at 2 p.m. from the Roaring Fork dining hall and concluding at the mountain lion statue in El Pomar Plaza, the walk will feature brief statements from UCCS Chief of Police Dewayne McCarver, Chancellor Sobanet, and Student Body President Axel Brown. Transportation will be available for those unable to walk the route.
