🏍️ CO Motorcyclists Get Lane Filter Go-Ahead

Heads up, COS drivers! Colorado is introducing a new law permitting motorcyclists to lane filter at speeds below 15 mph when traffic is stopped.

*According to Google, when a motorcyclist advances to the front of the line of cars stopped at a red light, they’re engaging in lane filtering. This allows the rider to move away from the potentially hazardous cluster of vehicles in case of a rear-end collision. 🤷‍♀️

Signed by the governor, this measure aims to boost safety for motorcyclists, particularly in heavy traffic conditions. State Senator Jim Smallwood highlights the importance of reducing rear-end accidents for motorcyclists. The law takes effect on August 7th, with plans for data collection to assess its impact on reducing motorcycle crashes.

🗑️ New Group Tackles Springs' Trash Woes

In Colorado Springs, a new non-profit called "Richard’s Rubbish Roundup" is addressing the growing litter problem. Led by founder Richard Skorman, the group has been organizing weekly clean-up sessions along Monument Creek for the past five months, with the aim of increasing community involvement. Despite existing efforts by other organizations, Skorman believes more collaboration is needed to combat the issue effectively.

The group provides safety equipment and encourages volunteers to join their efforts, emphasizing the importance of keeping the community clean and safe. Residents can report litter or inquire about volunteering by calling their hotline at 719-238-1161.

Colorado Lawmakers Vote to Regulate Funeral Services

The Colorado House of Representatives has passed a bill aimed at implementing stricter regulations and oversight for the funeral industry. The proposed legislation seeks to address a range of concerns that have emerged in recent years, including allegations of mishandling of remains, deceptive pricing practices, and a lack of transparency in the services provided to grieving families.

Under the new regulations, funeral homes would be required to disclose detailed pricing information upfront, making it easier for consumers to compare costs and make informed decisions. Additionally, the bill would grant the state's regulatory body, the Colorado Funeral Board, enhanced authority to investigate complaints and impose penalties on businesses found to be in violation of the law.

Supporters of the bill argue that these measures are necessary to restore public trust in the funeral industry and ensure that families receive the dignified and respectful service they deserve during their time of grief.
