๐ถโโ๏ธ Explore Sinton Trail: Stay Safe, Follow Signs
Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) announced the opening of Sinton Trail beneath I-25 on the south side of Ellston Street. Scheduled to remain accessible until late August, the trail will experience periodic closures during this time.
Pedestrians ๐ถโโ๏ธ are advised to follow detour signs and consult the provided map for guidance. CDOT emphasizes safety precautions near construction zones, recommending reflective clothing, helmet use for cyclists ๐ดโโ๏ธ, and avoidance of distractions. Additional tips include adhering to posted signs, watching for uneven surfaces, and communicating with construction workers for guidance. ๐ง
๐ฎโโ๏ธ Congrats, Grads! CSPD Welcomes 31 New Officers
In a proud moment for the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), 31 graduates from its 77th Training Academy class were honored after completing 27 weeks of rigorous training. The diverse group includes individuals from 4 countries and 12 states, with 14 graduates being veterans or active duty military personnel. The graduation signifies the readiness of these new officers to serve the community.
๐ซ UCCS Merger to Save $400K Annually
The University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) is undergoing a significant restructuring initiative, led by Chancellor Jennifer Sobanet, to streamline operations and improve financial efficiency. Effective June 1, the university will merge the Student Affairs and Enrollment Management divisions, while consolidating most campus auxiliaries under the Vice Chancellor of Administration and Finance.
As part of the restructuring, the Vice Chancellor of Enrollment Management will step down at the end of the semester, with no plans for refilling the position, and the Associate Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs role will be eliminated. These changes aim to reduce ongoing expenses, allowing UCCS to reallocate funds to better serve student needs, while also fulfilling its academic and research mission. The restructuring is expected to save the university approximately $400,000 annually. ๐ผ๐ฐ

๐จ Break-In at Silver Key Sparks Concern
In a distressing turn of events, Colorado Springs nonprofit Silver Key, dedicated to serving seniors, was targeted in a break-in for the second time. The burglars ransacked their headquarters overnight on Thursday, making off with donated items for their thrift store and crucial IT equipment, including computers. ๐ This incident follows a previous robbery last year, where catalytic converters were stolen from their transport vans.
Despite the setback, CEO Jason Deabueno reaffirmed their commitment to continue their vital services for seniors. However, the break-in has raised concerns about community safety and the security of neighboring organizations like the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), emphasizing the importance of ensuring the well-being of both employees and clients. Police are expected to investigate the robbery and assess the extent of the stolen items.
