π² Have Your Say: Jones Park Master Plan
El Paso County Parks invites public input on the Jones Park Master Plan, now open for comment until May 31, 2024. Acquired by the City of Colorado Springs in 2015, Jones Park spans approximately 1,200 acres within the Bear Creek Watershed and is cherished for its scenic beauty and diverse recreational opportunities.
The master plan, developed collaboratively with community input, prioritizes long-term sustainability, conservation of wildlife habitat, preservation of historic and cultural resources, and formalization of existing multi-use trails. The plan aligns with various conservation and regulatory standards, including the Bear Creek Watershed Restoration, US Forest Service guidelines, and the Jones Park Conservation Easement. Residents are encouraged to review the draft plan and submit comments to [email protected] by the end of May.
ποΈ Wall of Heroes: Tribute to WWII Soldiers
In a touching tribute, the Colorado Springs Airport introduces the Wall of Heroes, commemorating 144 soldiers from Colorado who lost their lives in WWII and are buried in overseas cemeteries. Inspired by a visit to Normandy and Brittany American cemeteries, the Colorado Springs Chorale, after placing flags at each soldier's grave, initiated the memorial project. Embracing personal connections to the fallen, members of the chorale were moved to honor these soldiers' sacrifice.
The Wall of Heroes now serves as a poignant reminder for all visitors and travelers passing through the airport, ensuring that the bravery and dedication of these soldiers are never forgotten. Keep an eye out for it the next time youβre passing through the airport. The display is small but filled with an abundance of meaning.
