El Paso County is addressing the critical need for affordable senior housing in Colorado Springs by investing $500,000 in a new 50-unit apartment complex adjacent to Silver Key Senior Services’ headquarters. This initiative aims to provide affordable housing for seniors, ensuring they have access to necessary resources and services.

Silver Key estimates an additional 1,500 senior housing units are needed in the Pikes Peak area to meet the growing demand. The new complex, slated for completion by mid-October 2024, is expected to charge rents around $300-$400 per month, making it an accessible option for seniors on fixed incomes.

Trevor Murray, a U.S. Army Special Forces veteran, undertook the Manitou Incline challenge for 24 consecutive hours to honor fallen heroes and raise awareness for veterans' mental health and PTSD.

Starting at midnight on Saturday, Murray completed 16 full laps, covering a total of 27.5 miles. Each lap was dedicated to a soldier, primarily from the U.S. Army Special Forces, but also included individuals from the Air Force, Navy, and Ranger Battalion. Murray's effort also aimed to raise $10,000 for the All Secure Foundation, a nonprofit supporting special operations veterans and their families. To date, he has raised $7,500 and hopes to reach his goal by the end of the month.
