🏛️ Colorado’s July Laws: What You Need to Know
Today July 1, Colorado enacted new laws that address a variety of issues, including the removal of local residential occupancy limits, expansion of gender-related bias crime definitions, and prohibition of firearms in sensitive spaces like government buildings. Additional measures target the use of deepfakes in elections and impose stricter rules against false electoral slates. Other laws to take effect cover topics such as public trustee fees, environmental sustainability, increase in property tax exemption filing fees and protection of victims of sexual offenses to name a few. More legislative changes are expected in August.
🚧 Expect Delays: S Academy Traffic Changes
Significant traffic adjustments are underway on S Academy between I-25 and Fountain Creek to allow for major construction projects, including new drainage systems and a noise barrier. The northbound lanes have been shifted to the center, and the new alignment will be in place until spring 2025.
Additionally, the northbound off-ramp from I-25 to S Academy has been realigned with a shorter acceleration lane. Bradley Road, under S Academy, will have reduced traffic lanes for bridge work from July 1 to July 3, 8am-4pm. Motorists should use caution and expect delays, especially at ramps with shortened merge areas. Construction schedules are subject to weather conditions.
💵 $75M Boost for Colorado Springs Microchip Plant
Colorado Springs is becoming a key player in the U.S. semiconductor resurgence with a $75 million federal grant awarded to Entegris Inc. The funding will aid in building a 130,000-square-foot plant, part of a $600 million expansion that promises 600 new jobs. The plant will produce critical components for chip manufacturing, with production starting in 2025. This development follows a similar federal award to Microchip Technology, highlighting the city's growing role in high-tech manufacturing. The CHIPS and Science Act supports these initiatives, aiming to secure the U.S. supply chain for advanced technologies. Full Story
