π Little Cowpokes Races Kick Off Historic Parade
The Pikes Peak or Bust Parade, originating in the 1930s, started as a celebration of community resilience during the Great Depression and has since grown into a cherished tradition in Colorado Springs. The event includes impressive demonstrations of horsemanship and rodeo skills, highlighting the region's rich Western heritage. The festivities begin this Sat, July 6 at 9am with the Lil' Cowpokes Stick Horse Races (registration required to participate $15-$20, free to spectators), where children compete in a delightful show of Western spirit, before the main parade commences at 10am, featuring an array of captivating western-themed floats.
π Catch the Sunrise Over Pikes Peak
The Broadmoor's popular sunrise train rides to Pikes Peak returns for a second year, with only four scheduled dates this summer: July 21, August 1, September 11, and October 14. These rides offer early risers a unique opportunity to experience the stunning morning vistas from the comfort of the Pikes Peak Cog Railway. Tickets, priced at $99 each (and going fast), contribute to local community projects in Manitou Springs. In case of inclement weather, the trains will journey as far as possible to ensure passengers can still enjoy the sunrise.
