🎩 History Came Alive at Rock Ledge Ranch
Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site marked the Fourth of July with a day-long event dedicated to American history and heritage. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., visitors enjoyed a variety of activities, including historical reenactments by actors portraying Civil War soldiers, Abraham Lincoln, and General William Palmer, the founder of Colorado Springs. The celebration featured interactive demonstrations, such as making corn dolls and crafting rope, as well as family-friendly activities like pony rides, a watermelon seed spitting contest, and chicken poop bingo. The event emphasized both educational and entertaining aspects of American traditions.
For those who couldn't attend, Rock Ledge Ranch offers similar experiences throughout the year with more historic reenactments and special events.
📝 Mayor Yemi’s July 4th Reflections
Mayor Yemi, in his inaugural Independence Day message, reflected on the enduring values of July 4th. He stressed the significance of equality, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, as proclaimed in the Declaration of Independence, and highlighted Colorado Springs' deep connection to these ideals through its pioneering spirit and military presence.
As an immigrant and U.S. citizen, Mobolade underscored the personal meaning of the holiday and called on residents to cherish their freedoms and honor the sacrifices of veterans and active-duty military personnel. The mayor encouraged the community to celebrate responsibly while reflecting on the values that underpin American democracy, advocating for unity and a commitment to a more equitable society. 💰 Medicaid to Cover Rent, Food in CO?
Colorado plans to expand Medicaid to cover food and rent for nearly 11,000 people experiencing or at risk of homelessness. The initiative (HB24-1322), part of broader state efforts, includes up to six months of rent assistance. Federal approval is sought to test these services for five years, utilizing federal funds. The proposal also aims to provide medically tailored meals and support local food pantries with healthy options, addressing the health-related needs of Medicaid recipients.
🧁 Moist Vegan Strawberry Cupcakes
These wholesome, fragrant cupcakes feature strawberry puree in both the batter and the frosting, infusing every bite with fruity goodness. You can use frozen strawberries if fresh berries aren’t available, but the fresh berries will give these treats a fabulous taste and texture.
