🚴‍♂️ Downtown Traffic Shift: More Bike Lanes

Bike Lanes Downtown

Colorado Springs plans to extend bike lanes along Cascade Ave downtown, aiming to enhance safety and connectivity for cyclists and scooter users. The project will restripe S Cascade between Colorado Ave and West Fountain Blvd, converting two traffic lanes into bike lanes.

This change is expected to slow traffic slightly, improving safety for everyone. City officials assure that the impact on commute times will be minimal. Residents welcome the initiative, which will connect to community trails and reduce reliance on cars as downtown continues to grow.

Portrait of Miss Elsie Palmer

The Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center is undertaking a dynamic reorganization of its extensive art collection. Over the next ten months, museum staff and guest curators will select and exhibit pieces from the nearly 18,000-piece collection, presenting them in fresh and engaging ways. The initiative, "Work in Progress: Re-envisioning the Collection," invites visitors to offer feedback on the accompanying interpretive labels, helping to shape the museum’s future presentations.

The first exhibit pairs John Singer Sargent’s “Portrait of Miss Elsie Palmer” with Cindy Sherman’s “Madame de Pompadour (née Poisson) Tea Service,” exploring themes of female identity. The rotating exhibits will lead to a complete gallery transformation next fall, potentially revealing never-before-seen works. This project aims to rediscover and highlight the rich narratives within the collection, connecting them to the regional culture of southern Colorado and northern New Mexico.

😴 Rest for Cash: A New Take on Relaxation

event at the Hillside Community Center

A recent event at the Hillside Community Center, led by poet laureate Ashley Cornelius, offered a unique experience combining rest, sound therapy, and community engagement. Participants, incentivized with $20, took part in a two-hour nap session to challenge societal norms around productivity and emphasize the importance of relaxation. The initiative aimed to address sleep deficits and offer rest as a communal and valued practice. Cornelius plans to apply for additional grants to expand the project. Full Story

🦶 Heel Pain? Don’t Stretch!

If you’ve ever suffered from Plantar fasciitis, you know how terribly painful it is and often mismanaged by stretching the wrong way, which can worsen micro-tears in the foot's soft tissue. Heel spurs are usually not the cause of pain. Instead, dietary changes, such as reducing oxalate-rich foods and increasing anti-inflammatory intake like lemon juice and vitamin D, can help alleviate symptoms. Watch the short video to find out how to get relief.
