💡 Could This Tax Revitalize Old Colorado City?

Old Colorado City

What would you pay to see your neighborhood thrive? In Old Colorado City, business owners and residents are backing a plan that would raise property taxes to tackle long-standing issues like dilapidated buildings, poor street lighting, and rising homelessness. The 5-mill levy would generate $280,000 annually and support a new Downtown Development Authority, following in the footsteps of a similar program in downtown Colorado Springs.

While no one enjoys paying more in taxes, those in favor say the benefits—ranging from improved security to beautified streets—are well worth the cost. The City Council has already moved the proposal forward for a second vote, and if approved, voters will make the final decision in November. After all, who doesn’t want their neighborhood to shine? 🐾 What You Should Know About Coyotes Near UCCS

coyote

University Park, near UCCS, has been experiencing an unsettling rise in coyote activity, with residents waking up to howls and worrying about their pets after several attacks. While locals are used to the presence of wildlife, this uptick in aggressive behavior has become a cause for concern.

Hoping for intervention, homeowners have reached out to Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW), only to learn that the agency won’t step in unless a person is harmed. Though property owners can defend their animals, many back onto state land, limiting their reach. CPW’s suggestion? Keep noisemakers or rocks handy. But can a few rocks really solve the problem?
