π§ Marksheffel Detours: 5-Night Closure
Marksheffel Rd is undergoing nightly closures through Sept 26, between Stetson Hills and North Carefree. The closures, running from 7 pm to 5:30 am, will allow crews to remove barriers, restripe the road, and shift traffic into new lanes. Detours will be routed along Peterson Road, with different access points for local neighborhoods depending on the day. On Sept 24, the temporary traffic signal at Zircon Dr will be removed, and Barnes will reopen on Sept. 25. The work schedule is dependent on weather, and updates are available via text or hotline (719-645-4055) for the latest schedule.

π 1,000 Gatherings: Final Week to Connect
The City of Colorado Springs is in the final week of its 1,000 Neighborhood Gatherings initiative, aimed at fostering social connections across the city's neighborhoods. More than 800 gatherings have been registered, and the campaign ends on Sept 28, National Good Neighbor Day. Upcoming events include an ASL Story Walk, UCCS Homecoming Tailgate, creek clean-ups, and parades. Residents are encouraged to join one of these public events or host their own gathering during the last days of the campaign.
π³οΈ Two Propositions, One Big Debate
In the upcoming election, Colorado Springs safety leaders are advocating for two ballot measures that voters will decide this November:
Proposition 128, which would enforce stricter sentencing for violent criminals, requiring them to serve at least 85% of their sentence which aims to address concerns about criminals serving less than half of their sentences.
Proposition 130, which would provide $350 million in law enforcement funding for recruitment, training, and retention. This proposition has drawn both support for boosting public safety and criticism from groups like the ACLU, who argue the funds should be directed to broader community services. Full Story
