💔 Why Is This Beloved Library Closing? 📚
Sadly, the Rockrimmon Library, a beloved community fixture in northwest Colorado Springs, will close by the end of November after the Pikes Peak Library District Board voted 5-2 not to renew its lease at last night’s meeting. The decision comes amid financial challenges for the library district, which faces rising costs and limited funding.
Despite emotional pleas from the public and a last-minute offer from the building’s owner to reduce rent, the board determined that maintaining the branch was no longer sustainable. While no staff layoffs are expected, the closure represents a significant loss for the community, which serves as a key resource for many families and seniors. We have highlighted their weekly free yoga at this location for a year as it was the best senior fitness/activity location we could find. 😢

The board stated they have been grappling with underfunding and chronic vacancies but acknowledged the emotional weight of the decision. This meeting only focused on the Rockrimmon branch and not the looming closer of the Ruth Holley branch, if it meets the same fate.

🚧 Nevada & I-25 Closure Ahead
Northbound S Nevada, between Brookside St and I-25 ramps, will close temporarily on Friday night, Oct 18, starting at 9pm. The closure, which is expected to last until 5am. Sat, will allow construction crews to relocate barriers.
The I-25 South Connector Road between S Tejon and S Nevada will also close shortly after, following a similar timeline. Detours will direct traffic through Brookside St and S Tejon, and drivers are advised to plan for additional travel time. A backup closure is scheduled for Sunday night if the work is delayed.
🔥 Firefighters Are Back in the Hot Seat!
This story made us giggle as it’s so cliché bringing us right back to our teenage years in the 80’s so we just had to share! 😇
The Colorado Springs Fire Department is reigniting a bit of nostalgia with the release of its first firefighter calendar in a decade. Organized by a local boutique, this calendar, celebrates not only the firefighters but also Colorado’s natural beauty, with each photo showcasing both the landscape and "manscape." A female firefighter is among this year’s finalists, a first for the CSFD.
The big reveal will take place at a release party tomorrow, Oct 18 from 6-9pm at Jack Quinn's Irish Pub, where firefighters will be available for signings. The event will raise funds for the Local 5 chapter of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF). Can’t make it? No worries, there are more signing events planned in October and November.
This calendar is not only a nostalgic throwback to the firefighter calendars of the past, but it also supports an important cause. So why not get in on the fun, relive those giddy teenage days, and help out local heroes at the same time? 😁 Full Story

🥣 Sheet-Pan Roasted Butternut Squash Soup
Recipe by Eating Well
Roasting the vegetables in the oven before blending them intensifies their flavors, resulting in a deeply rich and flavorful fall soup. Love the sweet and nutty flavor of butternut squash but any winter squash with a similar texture, such as acorn, honeynut or kabocha squash, can be used in its place.
