đź’ŽSparkle with Purpose This Holiday Season
đź’– How This 14-Year-Old Inspires Colorado Springs
Remember when your heart brimmed with boundless creativity, when no dream seemed too big? Before life's challenges dimmed that spark within you? Let us introduce you to Matti, a 14-year-old jewelry maker whose vibrant spirit reminds us of the importance of nurturing young dreams.
At just 10 yrs old, Matti launched "Made by Matti," her jewelry business, fueled by creativity and a desire to earn some spending money. When life threw her a curveball—a Type 1 diabetes diagnosis at 11—after being confused about the disease, Matti didn't falter. She is a testament to the power of youthful resilience when confronting life's unexpected turns.
Today, Matti's jewelry line raises funds for diabetes research, each unique piece reflecting her unwavering determination. As a Youth Advocate for the Children's Diabetes Foundation, she transforms personal challenge into a mission that touches lives. Her "It's Cool To Be Kind" collection also reminds us to cultivate compassion for others AND ourselves.
Discover these inspiring treasures at Honey, Tea and Me, Faery Grove, Festivitea and Revolution Dance Academy. Can't get to any of these? When you place an order, Matti and her parents will personally deliver to your doorstep if you’re in Northeast Colorado Springs or will mail right to your house.
Explore her evolving designs on Facebook (Made by Matti) or reach out for custom pieces by email at [email protected]
Choosing "Made by Matti" means more than acquiring jewelry. It's supporting a young innovator who reminds us that challenges can become stepping stones. You're investing in a bright future, helping ensure her creative spark continues to shine as part of our community that values and protects the dreams of our youth.
Perfect for holiday gifts!

🍔 Colorado E. Coli Alert: Quarter Pounders Pulled
A serious E. coli outbreak tied to McDonald’s Quarter Pounders has sickened 49 people in 10 states, with 27 of those cases in Colorado. One elderly person in Colorado has died, and 10 others have been hospitalized, including a child with kidney complications. The CDC is investigating slivered onions and beef patties as potential sources. As a precaution, McDonald’s has removed these ingredients from restaurants in the impacted states, which may temporarily halt the availability of Quarter Pounders. The company is working with the CDC and suppliers to resolve the issue.
Symptoms of E. coli typically appear within a few days of consumption, including cramps and diarrhea, and most cases resolve within a week.
Questions about cases in the state, call the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment (CDPHE) at (303)692-2000.

💡 Utility Rate Hikes: What’s Coming in 2025?
Colorado Springs Utilities is proposing a $1.8 billion budget for next year, reflecting a 21% increase from the previous year, and aims to invest $3.9 billion in capital projects over five years. These projects include expanding wastewater systems and the Montgomery Reservoir to meet the demands of a growing city.
The proposal would raise utility rates by about $14 per month for the average household starting in January 2025, with additional increases expected each year through 2029. The budget will be voted on next month, with concerns raised by residents regarding the impact of higher bills, especially for those on fixed incomes. Full Story

🗳️ New Voting Centers Just Opened
In preparation for the general election, El Paso County is expanding access to voting with five new Voter Service and Polling Centers, bringing the total to 38 centers open on Election Day. Additional locations will open on November 1 and 2, and there are 41 ballot drop boxes available 24/7 across the county. These centers provide voter registration, updates, replacement ballots, and ADA-accessible devices. The Clerk's office expects a 90% turnout and encourages early ballot returns to help process results more efficiently.
